Fersa Group, the multinational bearing manufacturer from Aragón, is celebrating its first year using its pioneering professional carpooling initiative in the city of Zaragoza, in collaboration with Hoop Carpool, a start-up that has developed an app for ride-sharing.

This initiative was created with the aim of promoting collaborative, responsible, and cost-efficient shared commuting among colleagues to travel to and from work, thereby contributing to reducing emissions and saving fuel in Zaragoza.

Hoop Carpool offers companies and universities the opportunity for members of their communities who commute daily to their workplaces or study centers to travel together. It does so through an application that connects drivers and passengers from the same organization, so they can share their regular car journeys. The platform is mainly focused on cities where the volume of commuting has caused serious traffic and pollution problems.

The platform allows Fersa employees to offer rides as drivers, so colleagues in need of transportation can book a seat in their vehicle. In this way, the app matches passengers and drivers according to their area and time slot, and within the app they can contact each other to agree and schedule the trip.

Fersa Group was the first company in Zaragoza to implement this sustainable transport method for its employees, helping reduce heavy traffic during rush hours in the PLAZA logistics park, where the company is located. At the same time, this initiative provides workers with an alternative transport option to the existing bus lines, which sometimes may not be compatible with their schedules or routes.

Thanks to this initiative, fuel consumption and refueling costs have been reduced, along with traffic and emissions, while also fostering greater interaction among colleagues.

According to the company’s Talent Manager, Adrián Lafuente, “since its launch last year, 44% of employees at our Zaragoza facilities already use the platform, more than 6,500 shared trips have been made, and over 16,000 kg of CO2 emissions have been saved.” He also added, “it has not only had an economic and environmental impact, but it has also helped colleagues get to know each other better.”
